Looking back on 2020

I don’t really know where to begin when talking about 2020. Who could possibly have imagined the year we all had? It’s something out of a movie—not something that actually happens to real people. And yet, here we all are, almost a year later, still dealing with this godforsaken situation (I refuse to name the situation because the name alone brings my entire mood down, and I think we're far enough away from 2009 to realise I'm not talking about Jersey Shore). I hope everyone is doing the best they can, especially during this 3rd lockdown (I know, it feels like the millionth one, since London was in Tier 4 for ages, which is essentially lockdown in all but name)(I don’t know about you but I never want to hear the words “tier” or “lockdown” ever again). It feels as though January is a bit of a lost month this year, so at least I don’t feel too bad about how long it’s taken me to put this video out (this is where I would insert the laughing emoji to convey the self-deprecating humour I no longer know how to express without emojis).

2020 is probably the year I filmed the most consistently, and I had a lot of footage to look back on (I still have at least 3 vlogs in various stages of completion that I need to post…and I will post them soon I promise), so since I’ve always wanted to have a yearly recap video, I thought 2020 is as good a year as any to start (here you can imagine the laughing emoji again, or if you’re feeling old-school, a nice and simple ‘lol’). Of course, there’s so much that I didn’t film this year—all the times I felt depressed/anxious/just generally upset and unsure what to do with myself. Actually, I did film myself during some of these times, but in the end, I don’t want to remember them. Really who does? Living through the tough times was enough, the trauma of 2020 is still too real to want to look back on it in any sort of detail.

So, like the rest of the internet, here is a carefully curated, filtered and generally upbeat version my life in the form of a Youtube video. I've also added a Spotify playlist to this post - it's perhaps a bit of a random mix, but they're all songs I took from my Top Songs in 2020, including 2 songs that feature in the video. And to everyone—I hope 2021 brings us more peace. It’s the dawning of the Age of Aquarius after all.
